Cold and Herbal Medicine

Last weekend, my husband got a cold. He is liable to catch colds twice a year, often in the beginning of spring and winter. In the last few weeks, he has been overtimes at his day job and also his mom’s store. He worked 14 hours a day without rest.

Due to his tightly schedules, he could not get good sleep. I noticed that he was exhausted already but he could not rest during the day. I prayed he would not catch a cold but finally he did.

Our private doctor is my dad, so I called him and told him, “My husband had a cold again.”

Acupuncture: Calling All Skeptics

Does it work? — That’s the first question I typically encounter when introducing myself as an acupuncturist. In other cultures, acupuncture is the primary health care system, and more of a last resort in the United States. But this is quickly changing as more and more people look to alternative and complementary methods to gain relief from physical, mental and emotional complaints.

Let’s take a few minutes to review (and debunk) a few myths surrounding this ancient medicine.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

This is a question I, as well as most acupuncturists, get asked frequently. Along with another very popular and related question, "Does Acupuncture Work?,” our days and conversations are filled with educating others about our medicine. To be an acupuncturist, you have to be an educator, this is a given. The problem with these questions, however, is that precise answers are not available. Certainly within itself Chinese Medicine has strong sets of theories which guide diagnosis and point selection, but to understand and explain this in exact Western terms is difficult at best.

My Liver is What?

The first in a series demystifying Chinese Medicine Theory
for Patients and the General Public

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) uses a variety of unique terminology to diagnose and treat a broad range of health issues. In this series of articles I am going to discuss some of the more common TCM diagnoses and their meanings in the hopes of demystifying the world of acupuncture. This, the first article in the series, will discuss the "Liver" system.

HR 646 Federal Acupuncture Coverage Act - Needs Your Support

There is an important bill in the US House of Representatives which would include acupuncture within the medicare program.  The passing of this bill would free the way for acupuncture coverage by other insurers to enable greater access to acupuncture across the US.

Self-Help, Acupressure, and Acupuncture for Seasonal Allergy Relief

Well, it's that time again. The pollen streams are flowing, and so are your sinuses. As is the case with many acupuncturists, we see a great number of people for seasonal and year round allergies in our clinic. In fact, along with conditions such as pain, anxiety & depression, headaches & migraines, and fertility, allergies are one of the most commonly treated conditions with acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

Acupuncture Integration Into Mainstream Healthcare in Australia

The following research discusses the path and integration of acupuncture into mainstream healthcare in Australia.  As Australia is similar in many ways to other developed countries, the article provides a clear path of development for those who are seeking to obtain similar changes in their respective countries.  Two items standout in relation to other countries with similar licensing structures and patient rates.

Community Health and Acupuncture

Well, here we are, the end of the first month of our new sliding scale community acupuncture clinic. We've had a great turnout, good coverage from the local media, and many satisfied patients. We've seen existing patients and many who are new to acupuncture, now able to receive treatment due to lowered costs and the removal of other barriers.

Clearing the Hurdle to Becoming Fertile

Since man and woman first walked on the earth, the existence of human beings has been dependent upon our ability to reproduce. This is, of course, true for all animals. Yet today, more and more people are surprised to find that reproducing is not as simple or straightforward as it may seem. Instead, for many couples, the happiness and excitement of planning a family has been replaced with the stress, anxiety, and frustration of infertility.
