TCM Pregnancy, Childbirth and Postpartum Issues Treatment Theory
Submitted by yyh_staff on Fri, 2006-12-22 13:25.Women's TCM Physiology:
Pregnancy, the process of childbirth, and the postpartum period bring about a multitude of changes within a woman from both eastern and western perspectives. A complete understanding of the Traditional Chinese Medicine view of the physiological functions and interactions during pregnancy is an important aspect of forming an appropriate treatment plan for the many issues which may arise.
Within TCM there are four primary aspects of interaction related to pregnancy and childbirth:
The uterus is the primary structure responsible for the birthing process and accordingly is the focal point when looking for disruptions. The uterus is responsible for the nourishment of the fetus and is greatly dependent on having enough energy or "Qi" available for proper development. This energy is primarily drawn from the Kidney system which must be strong enough to sustain both the mother and the developing fetus.

TCM Herpes Zoster (Shingles) Treatment Theory
Submitted by yyh_staff on Sun, 2006-08-20 06:53.From a TCM Theory perspective herpes zoster is an invasion of external wind-heat, much like other viral infections. The wind-heat leads to heat in the Blood which causes the symptoms of pain, itching, skin sores, etc. With regards to acupuncture treatment, the condition is looked at largely as a local condition and treatment depends greatly on the area(s) affected.

In its prevention role, Chinese medicine is used to treat many of the common risk factors for stroke, such as hypertension and diabetes. In its rehabilitative role, Chinese medicine is used to treat the effects of stroke. Accordingly, Chinese medicine is useful for side effects such as paralysis, speech issues, muscle weakness/flaccidity, etc.

Submitted by yyh_staff on Sat, 2006-08-19 12:25.Within TCM theory the term "Bi-Syndromes" is used to classify a broad range of conditions which are closely related to arthritis in western medical terminology.
In theoretical terms, a "bi syndrome" refers to an obstruction of the circulation of Qi and Blood in the channels usually caused by the invasion of pathogenic factors (cold/wind/damp) in the muscles, tendons, bones & joints, causing soreness, pain, numbness or a heavy sensation.
Some of the factors which contribute to the development of arthritis are:

TCM Irregular Menstruation Treatment Theory
Submitted by yyh_staff on Tue, 2006-08-15 20:15.From a Chinese medicine perspective irregular menstruation usually involves the Spleen, which is responsible for the production of Blood, a/or the Liver, which is responsible for the storage and smooth circulation of Blood. The Spleen is effected by emotions such as worry and upset and by lifestyle habits such as a poor diet or over or under exercising. The Liver is effected by emotions such as anger and frustration and by diets high in fried a/or fatty foods and alcohol. Some of the common lifestyle habits which may contribute to this are:

TCM Female Infertility Treatment Theory
Submitted by yyh_staff on Tue, 2006-08-15 15:06.From a Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) viewpoint, infertility can arise from a host of factors. In general the treatments focus on building a womans energy, regulating her menstrual and energy flow, and alleviating any psychological issues which may be present. Of particular focus are the Kidney, Heart and Liver meridian systems.
In Chinese medicine, the Kidney system provides a woman with the foundation of her energy. If this energy is deficient either from overwork or other health issues, conception may be difficult. In theory, a woman will ideally have more energy than she needs - that is, enough extra energy to offer to the baby. Many women with busy and stressful lives present with the kidney deficiency patterns described below.
