Urinary Retention after injury

Can you imagine being 80ish and having to catheterize yourself 4 times a day and feeling as if there was no other option?

An 80ish year old patient came into my office with Urinary Retention after falling on his knees. Several years before, he had a similar fall and the same issue presented (urinary retention). He was an avid boater and you would never know his age by the way he acted. He had a very active social life and was basically disabled by the event.

A friend suggested he try Acupuncture and he figured "what the heck, it can't hurt!". To his surprise, in just 3 treatments his urinary retention was resolved so when it happened again several years later, his first thought was to use Acupuncture again (in which the same resolution was experienced).

I also recently worked with a 80ish year old female who presented with Urinary Retention after a fall in which she fractured her sacrum and again the retention rapidly resolved itself with a few Acupuncture treatments.

Allopathic medicine has no "cure" for "unknown causes" of urinary retention but this is a simple fix for Acupuncture because we see the body as a whole and work on a different level.

Spread the word! Why suffer one day with urinary retention or any other health issue for that matter. I hope there will become a time when patients will seek an acupuncturist first, for there health issues rather than only thinking of Acupuncture as a last resort when all their insurance has run dry from Allopathic therapies.

Be proactive and press your insurance provider to include Acupuncture as part of your healthcare. Write to government officials to support Acupuncture. When there is enough pressure from the general public to include it, the insurance companies will have no choice. It is our rights as human beings to have access to healthcare of our choosing. Why should Massage Therapy or Chiropractic services be any different from Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine? Alternative Therapies should all be supported and will reduce the cost of Healthcare in the long run by preventing dis-ease and supporting health.

Get to know your local Acupuncturist like you do your Dentist, Chiropractor or Allopathic Doctor by participating in seasonal tune-ups to prevent imbalances and dis-ease. When dysfunction arises, you will have a trusted therapist to help you. Acupuncture has been shown to work with so many dysfunctions because it allows the body to come into balance. Keep in mind that where there is balance, there is no dis-ease.
