Gathering the Ki #7 Acupuncture is a type of energy medicine that accesses the meridian system, which can be described as an energetic pathway that carries information to various body functions and organs. Thus, in order to create a shift in our patient’s condition, we contact that pathway at certain places on specific meridians and send messages along that pathway. We describe this as “moving Ki (Qi). The energetic shift can create a physiological change, either quickly or over time.
Many Offices Many Lessons
September 21, 2011 was my 13th anniversary of being a New York State licensed acupuncturist. I have seen and learned much since the first day inserted an acupuncture needle for pay.
Acupuncture is becoming better and better understood in the west as time goes on but in some other countries it is already very well integrated into the "western" medical establishment. This integration is perhaps less important - outside of mutual respect and understanding - for less significant health issues but it is crucial for the types of conditions that require aspects of both Chinese and Western systems of medicine.
About 15% of couples trying to conceive are infertile. Acupuncture & Chinese medicine can effectively treat female infertility due to a variety of causes, including hormonal imbalances like elevated FSH , poor egg quality or quantity, endometriosis, & PCOS. In men, infertility from low sperm count, poor morphology, poor motility, & DNA fragmentation in sperm can be successfully addressed as well. Eastern and western medicine are synergistic. Taking a complimentary natural approach greatly increases the likelihood of having a baby compared with IVF or IUI by itself.
The Liver meridian first points should be Qi Duan on middle top of toes, the Liver meridian second points should be same as Kd 1, the Liver meridian third points should on back of heels between the Ub60 and Kd3 on the tendon name: "Zheng Jin", then the Liver meridian will go through Sp6 to Lv5 to original Lv meridians going on and end on Du20. Why Lv meridian should go this way? because in TCM acupuncture meridians theory, there is a rule, that is same name meridian on hand and foot should be almost on same position.
Can you imagine being 80ish and having to catheterize yourself 4 times a day and feeling as if there was no other option?
An 80ish year old patient came into my office with Urinary Retention after falling on his knees. Several years before, he had a similar fall and the same issue presented (urinary retention). He was an avid boater and you would never know his age by the way he acted. He had a very active social life and was basically disabled by the event.
Pain - oh my goodness....it hurts just to talk about it!
Pain is something that no one likes to feel. It begins as an uncomfortable sensation in the body brought about by a wide range of circumstances from stress, to the labors of childbirth, to overdoing what our body is capable of at that time, to an accident causing injury. Its our body trying to signal to us that something is wrong, something is putting us in danger, a threat to our whole being.
This is the fifth and final edition in my general introductory series to the five main organ systems (5 elements) in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). As we are heading into fall we are entering into the Lung phase of our body's seasonal cycle.
For many of us in the west, and in the United States particularly, acupuncture is thought of as a relatively new phenomena. In reality acupuncture has been with us quite some time - even in the west. The first known traces of Chinese Medicine works date back between the 18th and 16th centuries BC - approximately 3800 years ago.
This the fourth edition in my general introduction to the meridian/organ systems in Chinese Medicine will focus on the Stomach and Spleen meridians.
