Natural and Alternative Phobias Treatment Options

Phobias Treatment {introduction}

A phobia is an extreme fear of a specific object or situation, which in reality, poses little to no threat. Some common phobias include claustrophobia (fear of closed-in spaces), acrophobia (fear of heights) and agoraphobia (fear of situations with no clear escape, such as in crowds). Other phobias include fear of flying, escalators, spiders or snakes, blood, certain driving situations, and many others. When confronted with the phobia, an individual might experience intense anxiety or a panic attack.
Below you will find alternative and natural treatment options including those from a Chinese Medicine perspective for phobias.

TCM Diagnostic Patterns Related to Phobias

Listed below are Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnostic patterns that are commonly involved with this western medical condition/symptom. Properly applied, Chinese Medicine (including acupuncture and herbal medicine) treats patterns not individual symptoms/conditions which may better account for the range of symptoms often experienced by individuals. Pattern diagnosis/treatment is a crucial part of using Chinese Medicine for disease prevention instead of focusing on solely symptomatic treatments as is somewhat more common in western medicine. For more on this concept, please read What Does Acupuncture Treat? Or Treating the "Cause" and not the "Symptoms".

    It’s a funny thing about wanting approval. We never do get it when we feel most in need of it. There is apparently something repelling about the energy we project when we need people to stroke us, much like trying to bring the north side of two magnets together. They push each other apart. The lesson soon emerges: we are to learn how to give ourselves the approval we seek. Once we are able to do that, our energy attracts others to us. Perhaps that is a basic component of charisma. Charismatic individuals like themselves well-enough that they are not seeking approval from others.

    Meditation is a scientifically founded tool for improving our physical and psychological well-being. Many people incorrectly assume that meditation has something to do with various eastern religions or other more esoteric systems of belief. Meditation is an important aspect of Buddhism and Taoism, but also of all religious traditions including Christianity where it plays a vibrant role in certain denominations and within commonly practiced techniques such as the Christian Centering Prayer.
