How Healthy Is Your Salad? (and other hidden food dangers)

In our fast paced world we often struggle to find a balance in our diet between convenience and health. We all know the dangers of the fast food industry, high levels of salt and fat in many restaurant foods, of portion sizes being too large (particularly here in America), but we rarely question the "healthy" options we are choosing. I have many patients, for example, who eat energy bars as snacks. They are touted and marketed as "healthy" but many contain enormous amounts of calories and fat - enough to replace a meal or two in any given day. We have some exciting new changes this month at the Yin Yang House as well as a Reiki Certification Course. First, we are very happy to welcome Jacqueline Wooden, LMT as a new western massage therapist within our center. Many of you already know Jacqueline from the Tong Ren and Qi Gong classes, she is an excellent therapist and well versed in western and eastern herbalism, dietary change, and other healing methods. If you are interested in learning more about her, or in scheduling a massage, here is the place to start.
We are also pleased to have Reine Barjkana offering a level I Reiki Certification course this month on July 18th and 19th from 1-7pm. This class has been cancelled. We hope to have similar offerings in the future.
We also wanted to wish you a happy July 4th this year and to remind you that our Saturday Tai Chi class is cancelled and we will be closed that day for appointments.
Introduction to Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese healing system that allows the Reiki Practioner to draw on the Universal Life Force Energy to facilitate health for themselves and others. The results of Reiki Treatments have ranged from lowered stress, through to spontaneous healing of various dis-eases. Many clients find that they are able to release negative emotions such as grief, unfounded anxiety/fear, and stress so that they can move forward in their lives and make more healthy and joyful choices for themselves. The scientific medical benefits of stress reduction are well documented, including reduction in chronic pain, lowering of blood pressure and many other benefits.
